Yacht Prepares for Cruise in South Seas. WATER LILY’S ADVENTURE. The yacht Water Lily has returned to port from Pile Bay. where she took in about seven tons of extra ballast. The crew is now busily engaged in painting the hull and decks and it is pected that she will leave Lyttelton on March 21 for Wellington. A week will be spent at Wellington and she will then proceed to Auckland. After a fortnight’s stay at the northern port she will go across to Samoa. Her hold has been transformed into a messroom with extra sleeping accommodation on the sides. All the rigging and sails have been overhauled. The motor has also received attention. Amberley Picnic. It was unfortunate for the people of Amberley .that it rained on Saturday morning on the occasion of their annual picnic, which was held at Corsair Bay. About 160 attended the outing. The afternoon was fine and many people strolled round the bays. Others walked back to Lyttelton and inspected the ferry steamer Rangatira and other vessels in port. Excursions were run round the harbour by ferry launches. About sixty people attended the annual St John’s Presbyterian Sunday School picnic at Diamond Harbour on Saturday. The weather was dull but a sports programme was held for the children. A Presentation. As an act of appreciation by yachting enthusiasts of the port for the keen interest and financial sacrifices made in an endeavour to win back for Canterbury the Sanders Cup, Mr F. Dobbie will be the recipient of a presentation at the Lyttelton Council Chambers this evening. The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) will make the presentation. Bowling. T. Palmer created a surprise on Friday evening by defeating S. Sinclair in the semi-final round of the Lyttelton Bowling Club’s singles championships. The progressive doubles tournament, to have been played on the Lyttelton green on Saturday afternoon, was cancelled owing to the weather and the number of members playing at Christchurch in the championships. Diamond Harbour Golf Club.
The annual meeting of the Diamond Harbour Golf Club, was held in the pavilion on Saturday afternoon, Mr L. F. Bleivett presiding over a large attendance of members. The total profit for the year amounted to £49. The excess of assets over liabilities was £366 10s sd. The election of officers resultet as follows: President, Mr L. Blewett; vicepresidents, Messrs E. Rudkin and F. Cartwright; captain, Mr D. Gower; secretary, Mr A. G. Sinclair; trustees, Messrs W. C. Cleary and E. Mazey; handicappers, Messrs W. C. Cleary and J. H. Collins; committee, Messrs N. Thompson, W. C. Cleary, T. Bowring, J. 11. Collins, Allan Jackson, G. Cooper, E. Mazey and W. Paine. It was decided to admit week-day members, the fees to be: Ladies 15s, and men £1 Is a year. . It was decided to hold the opening day on Saturday, March 19. Personal. Mrs W. J. Harkess, who has been spending a holiday with her daughter Mrs D. Cameron, of Masterton, has returned to Lyttelton. Mr Trevor Harkess, w’ho was the guest of his sister, has also returned. Mr and Mrs W. D. Gower, who have been spending a holiday on the West Coast, have returned home.
