GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB.

GREYMOUTH. March 5. The monthly meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club was held yesterday, Mr T. E. Coates presiding. The New Zealand Racing Conference advised the appointment of Mr A. A. Besley, of Christchurch, as totalisator inspector for the club’s meeting on March 26 and April 2. The chairman stated that as economy measures were being sought by the Conference, lie considered a local post office official should be appointed to the position of totalisator inspector. It was decided to use every endeavour to have a local man appointed. The New Zealand Trotting Association advised that it had approved of the club’s dismissal of the protest lodged by Mr J. S. Howson, owner of Vestas, against .7. Durnoir, owner of Travis Thorn, winner of the Dobson Trot Handicap at the summer meeting; also the fine imposed on E. Chapman for holding the head of Travis Thorn at the commencement of the race. It. was decided to write to the county engineer congratulating him on the improvement effected to the road near the entrance to the racecourse, which lessened the danger of accidents.
