ARBITRATION ACT.

Protection for Women Workers.

After associating themselves with a deputation which waited on the Prime Minister (the Right Hon G. W. Forbes) and the Minister of Labour (Hon A. Hamilton) with reference to the proposed amendments to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, Messrs J. Roberts and R. Brooks, representing the tailoring trade and hotel workers have returned to Christchurch. The deputation was primarily concerned with the case of women workers. At the 1928 conference, which was held to discuss industrial questions, protection was promised unions which had 60 per cent of women workers.

Mr Roberts stated this morning that in view of the strong case that would be made out for the latter, he was satisfied they would be protected even though the proposed amendments were made to the Act.
