Moder Aeroplane Notes

The Model Aero Club held the second meeting in the inter-squadron competition last Friday evening in North Hagley Park. Air conditions again were bad, a strong westerly and later an almost as strong southerly wind blowing. After it had become too late to see the wind fell right away. The models to be flown were single pushers (hi.) and fuselage models (h.l. and r.0.g.). There were entries from each squadron in each class. The single pushers performed comparatively poorly, as was to be expected under the conditions, their motor power being insufficient to hold them steady in the gusts of wind. B. Wisely’s ’plane put up the best performance on its last flight. The hand-launched fuselage models made a fine showing, having great speed and good duration. It was no night for the lightly constructed ones, but the heavier entries were spectacular, Allan Stace’s being the best.

Points gained were : No. 1 squadron, 19; No. 2, 38; No. 3, 30. This makes the totals: No. 1, 35; No. 2, 88; No. 3, 57. Members are reminded that by being present at a meeting they score one point for their squadron; by being present with a ’plane they score three points. No. 1 squadron has been strengthened by removing from its roll the name of a non-competing member and putting on an active member. Next Friday evening, when the third series of inter-squadron competitions will be flown, the classes will be r.o.g. fuselage models, autogiros and twinpushers. The r.o.g. fuselage competition should have been flown off at the last meeting, but, owing to a late start, there was no time for it. As flying-time will be shorter each night from now on members are urged to be on the ground early and ready to start the competition at 6.30 pm. sharp.*
