W.C.T.U. MEETINGS.

Linwood Branch. The Linwood Women’s Christian Temperance Union held its monthly meeting recently in St George’s schoolroom. In the absence of the president, Mrs Turner presided. A scientific fact was read by Mrs Brewins. Mrs Straw gave an interesting talk on “Frances Willard.” A vote of thanks was passed those who made the cradle roll picnic such a success. The guest of honour for the afternoon was Mrs Anderson, late Cradle-Roll Superintendent, who will leave shortly with her little daughter to reside in England. She was presented with a bouquet and a fountain pen by the members. During the afternoon songs were given and recitations by Mrs Windsor. Afternoon tea was served. Sydenham. The monthly meeting of the Sydenham W.C.T.U. was held on Thursday last.. Mrs Lymberg (vice-president) presided over a good attendance. The syllabus for the year as drawn up by the executive, was adopted. It was decided to hold a “bring and buy” sale at the next meeting. Mrs Weatherhead gave a solo. Mrs Perritt was appointed a delegate to the Wanganui Convention. The Rev Milburn Stewart gave an address for which he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Three new members were enrolled.
