Church and Gambling.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —In your issue of Monday last, “ Anti-Gambling ” launches a severe attack upon the Methodist Church of New Zealand because one of its branches has offended him. Why not attack the offending branch? Any reasonable person cannot take exception to a social evening with a game of cards, as long as no gambling takes place, and is not dart-throwing a game of skill? Of course we don’t all think alike and we do not see everything with the same eyes. It is just as well that we do not. The social life of the Church has to be catered for, or how would we hold the people? “Anti-Gambling” seems to be one of those kill-joy pessimists who take jaundiced views of other people’s business and dictate to churches as to what they should do and not do.—l am. etc., FAIR PLAY.
