Good Time.

Week-end Books

By James Drawbell.

J-JERE IS A STORY which is bound to be populaF with a large circle of readers. It is all about a girl whose one desire was to have a good time. The opening is a sensational one and whets the appetite of the reader. Peggy Deane, who was in need of money, resorts to blackmail in order to get it, but she blackmailed the wrong man and the result was entirely different from what she expected. Peggy’s ambition was to have lovely frocks, to go to dances, theatres and parties. The victim of her little scheme was Peter Graves, a playwright, and feeling quite sorry for the girl, Peter planned for her to become his secretary and as such she met many famous people in the theatrical world, and certainly she had a good time. Of course, such a charming girl as Peggy was not without male admirers and so her love affairs help to make the story most entertaining. Mr Drawbell has drawn some excellent pictures of gay life in modern London and in New York. He has also described something of the life led by the passengers on board a magnificent liner en route to America. In the end Peggy re-wrote one of Peter’s plays and turned a failure into a great success. The situations on which this story is built have gone to the making of many novels, but in the capable hands of Mr Drawbell we have an agreeable tale possessing at least two very attractive characters.
