PRODUCTIVE WORK.
Scheme to Aid Unemployed to be Devised. The Christchurch branch of the T°wn Planning Institute decided last evening to set up a large and representative committee to undertake the formulation of a plan of work of a definitely reproductive character for the relief of unemployment. A conference of representatives of public bodies and members of Parliament and other interested persons is to be held on Monday, March 14, when a general committee and a technical committee will be set up. The chairman of the branch (Mr A. R. Galbraith) said that the Wellington branch had already taken action in the matter, and the Christchurch branch had been asked to initiate a similar movement. The functions of the committee would be to prepare a schedule of works and carefully criticise it from an economic standpoint, and then to make recommendations to the local bodies concerned and the Unemployment Relief Committee.
It was also decided to invite suggestions from citizens for consideration by the committee.
