New Vicar Inducted and Welcomed.
The service for the institution of the new vicar at Holy Trinity Church, Lyttelton, was held last evening before a large congregation. The new vicar, the Rev E. Hanna, comes from Hinds. The service was conducted by the Right Rev C. West-YVatson, Bishop of Christchurch, assisted by the Ven Archdeacon F. N. Taylor, Archdeacon of Akaroa.) After signing and promising to abide by the laws of the Church, Mr Hanna was handed the keys by the churchwarden. Bishop West-Watson, who delivered an institution address, said that the new vicar had come to one of the most ancient churches in New Zealand. He had come to the parish in a time of difficulty, but he felt that the parishioners would give Mr Hanna their support. He trusted in the people of the parish to give Mr Hanna their assistance in his difficult work. At the conclusion -.of the service, the parishioners were given an opportunity of meeting Mr and Mrs Hanna at a social held in the Sunday schoolroom. The Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr F. PL Sutton), on behalf of the churchwardens and parishioners, extended a hearty welcome to Mr and Mrs Hanna. In responding, Mr Hanna expressed his thanks to the Bishop for the service and the inspiring address. Both Mrs Hanna and himself felt that they would receive the loyal support of the parish. He felt proud of the honour that had fallen to him to take charge of the Mother Church of Canterbury. Accident to Schoolboy. A lad named S. Ayres, when coming out of school on Wednesday afternoon, fell, fracturing his left arm in two places. Golf Club. The first medal match of the season will be played by members of the Lyttelton Golf Club at Charteris Bay during the week-end. Bowling. Playing in the singles championship of the Lyttelton Bowling Club on Wednesday evening, D. Mahar beat S. Sinclair, W. H. Dunlop beat H. Barnard, D. Mahar beat J. M’Cormick, and S. Sinclair beat W. C. Cleary. Auction at Hotel. Manv would-be buyers attending the auction sale at the Canterbury Hotel were disappointed when informed that the sale of the furniture had been withdrawn. Only liquor, which was sold in big lots, was offered. One lot fetched as much as £24, but soft drinks were sold cheaply.
