WELLINGTON TROTS.

Review of Form for To-morrow. The Wellington Trotting Club will hold its last meeting of the present season to-morrow. The club has received a good list of acceptances for all its events, with the exception of the trotters’ races, the fields for these being disappointing. Provided the weather and track conditions are favourable there should be an excellent day’s sport on the Hutt course. 12.10 p.m. INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP, of 130 so vs; 3.57 class. One mile and five furlongs. Edith Voyage scr Todd Lonzia 36 Quincey Wah 3 6 Thorpe scr Deceitful 48 Miss Leda 12 The mile and five furlong trotters’ race, which will open the programme, has a field of only six. Quincey Thorpe, after her easy win last week at New Brighton over two miles, will be made a hot favourite, and the only other in the race who may trouble her is the South Canterbury trotter, Edith Voyage, who was fourth at New Brighton, but some distance back. Edith Voy r age was giving Quincey Thorpe 24yds over two miles and they now meet on level terms. Quincey Thorpe, Edith Voyage and Todd Lonzia should fill the places. 12.55 p.m. GRACEFELD TRIAL HANDICAP, of 100 sovs; 3.7 class. One mile and a quarter. Auspicious scr Venetian Lady scr Arion Bingen Junior scr Ax worthy scr Wild Goose scr Caligula scr Astral scr Desert Maiden scr Bara Gold 12 Silver Bird scr Jean Parrish 24 Historian scr David M’Elwyn 3 6 There is a field of twelve in the slow class mile and a quarter, with nine on the limit. Caligula showed up well in the Juvenile Handicap, of a mile and a half, at the last meeting held at Addington, failing only in the final quarter of a mile. The race should have done the Guy Parrish three-year-old a lot of good and he should be hard to beat over the shorter course. Arion Axworthy can show plenty of speed, but he does not always pace steadily. Historian, who is owned in Wellington, but trained at Yaldhurst by M. B. Edwards, will require to improve on his latest form at New Brighton to have any chance. Desert Maiden has been improving in her training work and she was somewhat unlucky to be beaten early in the year at the Greymouth meeting. David M’Elwyn is set a hard task from 36yds. The final placings may be Caligula, Desert Maiden and Arion Axworthy. 1.40 p.m. WAI WET U HANDICAP, of 130 sovs; 3.52 class. One mile and five furlongs. Murchimes scr Tennessee’s Highland Child 12 Derby scr Actor 24 Lady Cofonado scr Donna Sister Rose scr Gulvallis 36 Nimbus 12 Hilltop 60 There is quite a useful field in the mile and five furlong handicap. Murchimes is a useful sort, who raced fairly well at the club’s January meeting. Highland Derby did a good deal of racing last season and showed improvement, but Lady Coronado is not a good stayer. Sister Rose has become troublesome at the barrier and she may not go off right. Highland Derby may be the best of the limit division. Nimbus is a pacer who looked like making good early in the season, but Tennessee’s Child, although possessing a lot of speed, is a poor stayer. Actor, if he handles the going right, should race well, but he prefers a larger track. Donna Gulvallis is such a smart beginner that from 36yds she should soon be well placed. She did not race prominently at New Brighton last week, where she was well backed for the mile event, but she is a useful sort, who can go the distance. Hilltop has speed without much stamina. Donna Gulvallis, Nimbus and Actor look most worthy of support. 2.25 p.m. R. A. ARMSTRONG MEMORIAL HANDICAP, of 300 sovs; 4.34 class. Two Brentlight scr Nimble Direct 12 Anon scr Baron Bingen 12 Cranleigh sex* Grand Canyon 12 Colonial Boy 12 Ayrraont

Stanley T. 12 Chimes 24 festival 12 Impromptu 24 There is quite a useful field in the chief event of the day, and it should provide a keen contest. Brentlight, Anon and Cranleigh are on the limit, and, although it looked as though Anon was a trifle sore recently, she should beat the other pair. Brentlight, who is honest and reliable, has been racing most consistently this season over all distances, without much success. Cranleigh does not seem to be in his best form at present. Anon won on the course in January, and early last month won the Liverpool Handicap at Addington in 4min 30 4-ssec. Colonial Boy is best over shorter courses, and Stanley T will require to begin right for the trotter to have any hope of success with the pacers. Festival is likely to put up a good race, especially with a slow first mile. Nimble Direct went a fine race over the distance when he finished second to Hostess at Timaru at the end of January. Baron Bingen is better over sprint courses, but if Grand Canyon is in the humour to race he is capable of a solid two-mile performance. Ayrmont Chimes, after racing well in the early part of the season, has not done so well lately. The finish should be fought out by Anon, Nimble Direct and Grand Canyon, who may finish in that order. 3.10 p.m. PALMER HANDICAP TROT, of 150 sovs; 4.52 class. Two miles. Edith Voyage scr Miss Leda 12 Hydro scr Todd Lonzia 36 Quincey Wall 36 Thoi-pe scr Deceitful 48 The same field is engaged in the twomile trotters’ race as in the mile and five furlong event, with the exception of the Oamaru-trained Hydro, who raced at New Brighton last week without success. The running in the first race should be a good guide for this event, and Quincey Thorpe (who is a fine stayer), Edith Voyage and Todd Lonzia look to possess the best chances. 3.55 p.m. TAITA NOVICE HANDICAP, of 100 sovs; 4.3 class. One mile and five furlongs. Auspicious scr Astral scr Arion Desert Maiden scr Axworthy scr Bara Gold scr Caligula scr Mihad 48 Silver Bird scr Huia Maid 96 Chapter scr Nearly all the horses engaged in this event are acceptors for the slow class mile and a quarter, to be run earlier in the day. Caligula may find the distance too far, and Silver Bird should do better over the longer journey. Desert Maiden, if she escapes a penalty,

should also do well over a mile and five furlongs. Mihad won over the distance at the last meeting, paying a sensational dividend, but she will be meeting better company on this occasion, where she is on 48yds. Huia Maid, although well back in the handicap, is,a proved stayer, and for this reason may have a chance. Silver Bird, Desert Maiden and Mihad have most form to recommend them. 4.40 p.m. MARCH HANDICAP, of 120 sovs; 2.56 class. One mile and a quarter. Tennessee’s Sister Rose scr Child scr Actor 12 Silver de Oro scr Liglitwood 12 Highland Donna Derby scr Gulvallis 24 Lady Coronado scr Zella 60 Automatic scr Automatic, on the limit, should start a solid favourite, as the big pacer has been racing in improved form of late. He is a trifle troublesome at the barrier, but with a smart beginning will a lot of beating. Sister Rose, another bad beginner, would also have a chance if she went away right. Zello looks to be too far back to catch the front division, but Lightwood is partial to the distance. Donna Gulvallis, should she fail in the Waiwetu Handicap, has a great chance in this event. The three-year-old Silver de Oro may be the hardest to beat off the limit, but she has not been starting well in recent ra<sss. Automatic* Silver cle Qro and

Donna Gulvallis should be in the placings. 5.25 p.m. AU REVOIR HANDICAP, of 200 sovs; 2.47 class. One mile and a quarter. Ayrmont Grand Canyon ser Chimes scr Morning Sun scr Arachne scr Cranleigh 12 Purser scr George Rey 3 2 Nimble Direct scr Warplane 24 Baron Bingen scr Colonial Boy 2 4 The meeting will conclude with the fast mile and a quarter event, which has a good field engaged, there being an acceptance of eleven. Although Ayrmont Chimes has not been racing well of late, he may do well over the sprint course. Arachne has done best over two miles in her recent racing, but she is a speedy pacer, who is beginning in her races much better than formerly. Purser is unreliable at the start, but Baron Bingen goes away well and races best in sprint events. Grand Canyon, on the other hand, is best over a journey. Morning Sun has been racing satisfactorily lately, and he should be hard to beat. George Rey won at Forbury Park over the same distance, and Warplane may also do well. Colonial Boy is a speedy beginner and, although on the back mark, with Warplane, may beat the latter by obtaining an advantage at the start. The race looks like being one of the best contests of the day, and a good deal will depend on how they go off from the barrier. Morning Sun, Baron Bingen and Colonial Boy may tie in the final placings.
