LATE MRS ANNE KING.

TEMUKA, March 3. _ The death occurred at her late residence, Maude Street, Temuka, on Monday last, of Mrs Anne King, widow of the late Daniel King. The late Mrs King, who was seventy-six years of age, was an early settler in Temuka district. She was a native of Littledean, Gloucestershire, England, and came out to New Zealand at the age of eighteen years in the sailing ship Duke of Edinburgh in 1875, landing at Timaru after a rough passage of three months. With other immigrants she was domiciled for a period in the old immigration barracks at Timaru, and later entered the service of Mr M’Sweeney, proprietor of the Star of the South Hotel at Rangitata. Here she met her late husband, who predeceased her twenty years ago. Ever since her marriage she has resided in the Temuka district. Mrs King was the mother of eight children, five girls and three boys. They are: Mesdames F. Selby (foannevirke), W. Hoare (Christchurch), W. Peters and H. Gillam (Dunedin), C. Thomas (Orari), and Messrs Jas. King (Temuka), A. H. King (Timaru) and F. E. King (Timaru). There are thirty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral took place yesterday at the Temuka cemetery, the service being conducted by Ensign Knight (Salvation Armv) and Adjutant Elston, of the Boys’ Home. There was a large number of wreaths and floral emblems.
