The death is announced at Riga of Eugen d’Albert, the famous pianist. Mr David Martin will return next week from England and America. Bishop Bennett arrived from the north this morning. Professor 11. G. Denham returned from Wellington this morning. The Hon R. Scott, M.L.C., arrived from the north this morning. Mr A. G. Wallace (Wellington) is a guest at the New City Hotel. Messrs R. Jenkins (Wellington) and .T. Ashton (Auckland) are staving at the United Service Hotel. Messrs John Taylor and R. Keith Taylor and J. Russell Hancock (Wellington) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Messrs T. D. Burnett, M.P., and E. J. Howard. M.P., were passengers by the ferry steamer this morning. Mr Tom Marker, who was injured in an accident yesterday, was reported this morning to be improving in condition. Mr Stronach Paterson left by last night’s ferry steamer on his return to Wellington. Messrs A. R. Lambert and K. N. Shaw (Dunedin) and Tf. G. Lewis (Auckland) arc staying at the Royal ‘Hotel. A motion of sympathy with Mr P Davidson in the loss of his wife was carried at a meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last night. Rear-Admiral Geoffrey Blake was concongratulated at a meeting of the committee of the Navy League last evening, on his appointment to the Admiralty. Mr C. B. Myhre, pilot member of the Canterbury Aero Club, left Christchurch by air yesterday morning for New Plymouth where he will attend the “Flying Week” celebrations. Mr G. D. White Parsons. A.M.1.C.E., of Lyttelton, is now on the technical staff of the London Electric Railways, and is engaged on work in connection with the extensions to the Piccadilly Tube Railway. A motion of condolence with Councillor Annie Fraer in the death of her husband, the Rev C. A. Fraer, was passed by the Christchurch branch of the Town Planning Institute of New Zealand last evening. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr F. Percival Smith was passed at a meeting of the committee of the Navy League last evening. The chairman (Mr J. J. Dougall) referred to Mr Smith’s long membership of the league, and his valuable services. Mrs C. A.^ Fraer has received the following telegram to-day from the Prime Minister < the Right Hon G. W. Forbes) : “ I have heard with extreme regret of the death of your husband, and my wife and I desire to tender our deep sympathy in your bereavement.”

Rabbi H. Lew, of Palestine, was a passenger by the Ulimaroa. which arrived at Auckland from Sydney on Tuesday. He has completed a tour of Australia on behalf of Jewish institutions and educational work in Palestine, and will spend a short period m New Zealand visiting the Jewish congregations in the four centres.
