Coalition Member Urges Reduction. CLAIMS OF FLESH AND BLOOD. (Special to the *' Star. > WELINGTON, March 4. " The breaking; of contracts is distasteful, but flesh and blood has its claims.” declared Mr A. E. Ansell (Coalition, Chalmers), in advocating a readjustment of fixed charges during the Address-in-Reply debate to-day. “ The time has arrived,” he added. “ when we cannot afford to put the sanctity of contracts above flesh and blood.” He asked members to look at any banknote and see on it. “We promise to pay £1 sterling.” but he would ask them to try the banks and see what they would get if they presented their note. Mr Fraser (Labour. Wellington Central): You would get the same old paper back. Mr Ansell strongly declared that any further economies must definitely be accompanied by reduced rents, rates of interest and other fixed charges.
