PAY ON RELIEF WORKS.

Suggested Rate on Waiuiak Scheme. £2 FOR FIFTY-HOUR WEEK. While no oftieial announcement has yet been made Concerning- the rates of pay to be paid to the unemployed under the Waimakariri River Trust’s scheme, it is suggested in certain quarters in Christchurch that the sum of £2 a week will be allowed men who are engaged for the work. It is also stated that out of this sum. the men will be required tp pay 10s a week for their keep at the camp that is to be established under the scheme. The fixing of the wages is being left to the Unemployment Board, and it is probable that some definite advice in regard to the matter will be in the hands of the River Trust by next Wednesday A member of the board stated yesterday that he did not know that the rates of pay would be decided upon until the question of pay on relief works generally had been determined by the Unemployment Board.
