Railway Economy.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —Some time ago we were told through the daily papers that a railway manager had been appointed, also an assistant engineer, and we also have the Railway Board. Surely these three parties are sufficient to manage our railways. In to-night’s paper it is hinted that we are to have a further reduction in wages. Well, let the powers that be start at the top of the tree and dispense with the services of unnecessary heads. It appears to be a case of keeping the working man down every time. The highly paid servant has every right to have a 20 per cent reduction and his* services dispensed with where he can be done without.—l am, etc., NEW ZEALAND. January 16, 1932.
