TROTTING NOTES.

T>ASSENGER trains for the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday will leave Christchurch At 9.30 a.m. and 9.45 a.m.

Acceptances for the trotting events at Waikouaiti and Oamaru are due at nine o’clock to-night.

Acceptances for the Winton Trotting Club’s meeting will close at eight o’clock to-night.

Great Amazon, who has been nominated for the mile and a half trotters' race on the first day of the Canterbury Park meeting, did not race last season.

Ratloc continues to keep fairly sound, and if J. J. Kennerley can get him to the post at his best the big pacer should race in improved form, as he is working satisfactorily. AUCKLAND SECOND LEG..

The second “ leg ” of the first day’s double at Auckland is the St Helier’s Handicap, the 2.48 mile and a quarter. There is an acceptance of thirteen, and if track work is a guide, says an Auckland writer, Benefice should be a strong favourite. The Rey de Oro mare is working in brilliant style, and is showing more speed than ever. But the race is not going to be easy to win with Purser, Nella Dillon, Dan Direct and Princess Mauritius on the limit. All can go a fast mile and a quarter. Golden Pedro and Impromptu are with Benefice on 12vds, and they will keep her stepping over the final quarter, which is where she might fail. Great Ballin is a speedy horse on 24yds. His track work has been nothing startling, but he goes better in a race than he does in training. It is a very open race, and at least half a dozen appear to have excellent prospects.

Chimer should win a race soon for G. S. Smith, who has the southernowned pacer looking in fine order. Chimer, however, is a moody customer and not reliable at the barrier.

Acceptances for the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting will close at nine o’clock to-morrow night. * * * Arachne was well backed at the recent meeting at New Brighton, but she did not race pleasingly. The Kaikouratrained mare is engaged at the Canterbury Park meeting. * 5}C 3|C * Peter Daunt was a disappointment at the last New Brighton meeting and his subsequent training work at Addington indicates that the fast pacer is not at his best just now. * * * * In connection with the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, a special fast train for horses and attendants will leave Christchurch at 7.5 a.m. and Sockburn at 7.36 a.m. * * * * Warplane is not showing up so well in his training work as he did a few months ago. The Man a’ War pacer, however, seems to come on very quickly, and being a fine stayer, he may race* well over two miles. * ik * A few months ago Nona Bingen looked as though she would soon be a winner, as she was racing well but unluckily. She is engaged at the Canterbury Park meeting, and has been doing well in her training work. She is smart up to a mile and a half. * * * =§e Since going to Rangiora to be trained, Tactless has put up some useful efforts over two miles, but he is now being nominated for shorter events. Tactless in the past has been a bad doer, but lie has improved in this respect since going to his new training quarters. * * * * Delightful looks in good order, but it remains to be seen .how he will race after his fall on the first day of the Forbury Park Club’s recent meeting. Delightful is a brilliant sprinter, who can also go two miles when at his best. He seems to be a somewhat nervous pacer, and his southern mishap may cause him to race until he regains confidence with the colours up.
