PERSONAL.

Constable Conway, of Blackball, has been transferred to Kaiapoi. The Hon D. Buddo, M.L.C., arrived from the north yesterday morning. Mr Clement May has again been appointed sole adjudicator in elocution at the forthcoming competition festival at Christchurch. Messrs H. Firman and A. Bloxam were nominated on Saturday evening by the Christchurch Tomato and Stone Fruit Growers’ Association as judges for the National Flower Show fruit sections.

Constable E. R. Warren, who has been stationed in Kaiapoi for the past twelve years, has been transferred to take charge of the Papanui station. Mr E. Hitchcock, general manager of the Municipal Electricity Department, returned on Saturday after an extended tour of Great Britain, Europe and the United States.

Sir James Mills is a passenger to New Zealand by the R.M.S. Rangitane, due at Wellington from Southampton to-morrow. He will proceed next day to Auckland and Rotorua.

Mr E. Casey, Chief Engineer of New Zealand Railways, is staying at the New City Hotel. Mr Casey is visiting Christchurch on a general routine inspection, following the recent staff changes. The death has occurred in Sydney, according to a cablegram received by Mr Maurice Ralph, of Mrs E. J. Gravestock, wife of the weikknown entrepreneur, who has been associated with the tours of many great artists. Mr Gravestock and his two daughters, who live in Sydney, have a very wide circle of friends in and out of musical and theatrical circles.
