The Elder and Fyffe steamer Aztec reached Southampton, having rescued in mid-Atlantic the captain and crew of five of the three-masted schooner Ria, with great difficulty in heavy seas at night, says a message from Rugby. The Aztec launched a boat manned by volunteers, and took off the Ria’s crew. Afterwards the captain was taken back to set fire to the abandoned schooner.
