TIME SERVICE CEASES.

The new telephone directories, now being distributed in Christchurch, omit the familiar notice “ For time, dial 396.” This means that the custom of giving the time to telephone subscribers has been stopped. It will officially cease on Saturday next. In the past it has been very convenient to dial 396, and have the correct time given immediately. Many a clock has gone without attention just because it could be corrected every morning. Now it will have to be taken to the repairer, and made reliable.
