DIFFICULT PROBLEM.

Claim Made by Relief Worker. While engaged on unemployment relief work for the Paparua County Council, John Frederick Vogel pricked one of his fingers with a piece of gorse. He later lost the use of his right hand, and lost his little finger. As a result, he claimed compensation from the council in the Arbitration Court yesterday, the Court being asked to settle the amount. Plaintiff had already been paid £l9 10s under the Workers’ Compensation Act. His Honor (Mr Justice Frazer) presided, and with him were Messrs W. Cecil Prime (employers’ assessor) and A. L. Monteith (employees’ assessor). The facts were admitted, and the question that the Com c was asked to decide was what were the weekly earnings of plaintiff upon which compensation was based. After legal argument had been heard his Honor said that the case was of such general importance that he would give his judgment in writing.
