DRAINAGE BOARD.
Final Meeting of the Year Held. A good deal of business was transacted in a short time at the final meeting for the year of the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. Mr W. J. Walter was In the chair. The finance committee's report, recommending the annual grant to the Christchurch Technical College of £2O, and the payment of accounts amounting to £20,352 12s Id on the general account. £305 11 s 2d on the No. 7 loan account and £3584 14s 6d on the No. 9 Loan Account, was adopted. The Works Committee reported that the City Council had approved the proposal to divert the Heathcote at Cashmere, and that the engineer had been instructed to proceed with the work under the No. 5 unemployment scheme. It had also been decided to accept the offer of Messrs Parks and M’Clelland to provide all materials needed for the board to cover over a portion of Hunter’s drain through their properties, and this work would also be carried out under the No. 5 scheme. The engineer’s report, which was adopted, stated that the number of unemployed given work under the No. o scheme showed an average weekly of five four-day workers, sixty-nine threeday workers and sixty-five two-day workers. A good deal of work had been done. Work had been started on the weir in the Avon on November 25 and good progress made in the driving of the big piles. Permission was granted for the engineer (Mr J. Cullens) to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers in February.
