WAITAKI HIGH SCHOOL.

Organ Presented by Old Boys. (Special to the “ Star.”) OAMARU, December 15. The chief speaker at the annual prize giving of the Waitaki Boys’ High School to-night was Sir James Parr, who extolled the merits of the junior high schools. That at Waitaki, in particular, he said, had proved an un* qualified success. He paid tribute to the ability of the rector, Mr Frank Milner, and the energy of the chairman of the Board of Governors, the Hon E. P. Lee. The speaker said he had noticed while in England that the junior high school was not only a doctrine but a general practice, much enthusiasm being shown on all sides for the system. In conclusion. Sir James said, amidst applause, that Mr Milner was so wrapped up in Waitaki that during Sir James’s education ministership he had refused the post of Direc-tor-General of Education. At to-night’s ceremony, a magnificent organ, costing £2770, presented by old boys throughout the Dominion and erected in the Hall of Memories, was formally handed over to the school by Mr A. W. Moss, president of the Old Boys’ Association, in memory of old boys who had upheld the traditions of the school during the Great War. Dr Bradshaw, organist of the Christchurch Cathedral, had recently examined the instrument, and found it perfect in every way. At the conclusion of the prize-giving a recital on the organ charmed a large audience.
