At the meeting of the Drainage Board last night it was reported that a letter had been received from the Controller and Auditor-General stating, in reply to a letter from the Board, that the Riccarton Borough Council had advised the Department that the matter of payment of 10 per cent penalties on rates was under discussion between the board and the council. The secretary was instructed to reply to the effect that the matter had been informally discussed some time ago, and the borough had agreed to advise the board of the amount due. Up to the present, this information had not been forwarded.
