ST ANDREW’S COLLEGE.
Annual Display Given by the Students. The performance of the St Andrew’s College boys at their twelfth annual display in the Caledonian Hall last evening reflected credit on both pupils and masters. The hall was crowded and many were unable to find seating accommodation. The display is primarily intended to give the parents and friends of the college an idea of the work and activities of the various branches of school routine, but it proved also to be an entertainment of high calibre. The outstanding item was the presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera, “Trial by Jury.” The rendering of the one-act play “ Good Old Uncle Amos,” by the members of the Dramatic Club, received hearty applause. Other elocutionary items illustrated the merit of Mr Farquhar Young’s tuition. The pieces by the pipe band and orchestra well deserved the approbation accorded them by those present. The school singing proved to be as popular as ever. The gymnastic display under Captain F. Pond provided an insight into the physical training work.
