The Christmas Spirit.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —The election is over; many selected members are away to their homes for a quiet rest after a most strenuous time, and no session until February. Intelligent people ask one another what it all means. Others inquire if there can ba no important matters demanding the attetv tion of our Prime Minister, who also is resting at home after a very strenuous time. Christmas is upon us, and hundreds of unfortunate people must go without their Yuletide festivities, perhaps without food and clothing. I crave, sir, only a small portion of your valued columns to awaken the people of Christchurch to help one another this Christmas, to consider the needs of the Salvation Army and other local bodies. Just try to gladden the hearts of hundreds in this our very own town, Christchurch. There are hundreds who, if they gave, would never miss it. I write under no strain. What I see from day to day I must believe. The Government can do little regarding food and clothing; we can do a great deal. I often hear that slang phrase, “Oh, have a heart! ** but I ofttimea wonder where they are, or, better still, who have them. —I am, etc, AVON.
