A NEW SERVICE.

Canadian National Steamships’ Scheme.

So as to arrange for the transport of wool to America, Canadian National Steamships has arranged for vessels to call at New Zealand from South America. The Canadian Scottish is fixed to leave Buenos Aires on December 18, and the Canadian Victor on January 18 for New Zealand ports. After loading wool in New Zealand, the ships will return to New York, Boston, and Halifax without calling at Australia, as has usually been the case since the line curtailed its shipping services to Australia and New Zealand. This move has been undertaken for the benefit erf the shippers of wool. Two vessels belonging to Canadian National Steamships, the Canadian Challenger and the Canadian Transporter, are at present en route to New Zealand from Montreal. This is believed to be the first time that the ships of Canadian National Steamships have come to New Zealand via South America. Some time ago it was announced that the Canadian Challenger, which is due at Auckland on December 16, was the first ship belonging to the line that had called at the Gulf of Mexico ports to complete her cargo—a practice that has been widely followed of late, because of the shortage of general cargo from America. Case oil and sulphur are among the cargo loaded at Gulf ports.
