Cornes Puts Up Record Time in Cross-Country Race. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 12. Oxford won the seven-mile crosscountry match against Cambridge in 43 minutes 4 seconds. Points against Oxford totalled 20, those against Cambridge were 35. C. W. Benson, who was the. winnter in 1930, led the field for four and a half miles. Pie was the only Cambridge man in the first five. *l. F. Cornes (Oxford) won the race in record time. Oxford have now v/011 the race 21 times to Cambridge’s 26. The contest has been run since ISBO with the exception of the years of the war. Each team comprises six men, with fivH3 scoring towards the result. The first man home is awarded a Full Blue. The best time previously recorded was 43 minutes 24 2-ssec by L. W. Reed, in 1883.
