ROTARY HAMPERS.
Relief Provisions for Needy Families. When distressed families in Christchurch get the hampers which are provided for them at Christmas through the generosity of Christchurch people and the organisation, of the Christchurch Rotary Club, they will find enough good food to keep them going till after New Year. The size of each family which is to get a hamper is known, and one of the three sizes of hampers is allotted to it. The first hamper, designed for a family of five—man and wife, and three children—contains the following: Seven pounds of flour, a small tin of baking-powder, 61b of sugar, 21b of sultanas, lib of tea, lib of currants, four jellies, 21b of butter, a plum pudding, and a tin of jam. The next size of hamper is for families of seven people, and the largest for eight people and over. These differ from the first in quantities of the food only, except that in the largest size a small tin of cocoa is provided. Funds are still wanted for the work of trying to make certain that no family shall be hungry at Christmas time, and social workers urge every citizen to support the Rotary Club’s street appeal on Friday of this week. The job is so big that there is no fear of too much money coming in. Rotary Club members will do the packing next Saturday, and the distribution on Christmas. Eve.
