Pomp and Midinette Show Great Dash.

(Special to the “ Star.”) WANGANUI, December 12. W. Rayner gave Pomp and Midinette (Limond—Motley) a spin over five furlongs this morning. They had a fair amount of pace upon reaching the peg, and ran the first furlong in l2sec, the quarter in 23 2-ssec, and the three furlongs in 35sec. Going on, they finished up the distance practically on terms in lmin lsec. It was a rattling good gallop by both horses, as they were fairly wide out, and were not fully extended, while the going was not extra fast. Midinette has fined down and lengthened out, and is a much improved filly. She was running on well at the finish and should see out the six furlongs of the Great Northern Foal Stances all right* Pomp never looked better and it will come as no surprise to find the son of Absurd running a great race in the Railway at Ellerslie, in which event he has only 7.0 to carry. Mr Currie, who will be represented at Auckland by this pair only, was present to witness the gallop, and he had reason to be well pleased with it. Gasform was schooled over the hurdles and jumped fairly well, though he clorited a couple with his hind legs. Arisus, who is to do his holiday racing at Ellerslie, looks all the better for his race at Feilding, and the son of Thespian must be hard to beat in his engagements. Korokio’s connections were very confident that she would win a race at Woodville, £?nd her failures must have proved expensive to her backers. She will make her next appearance at Awapuni. She appears none the worse for her racing at Woodville. Balloon, who is in the Manawatu Cup, is working very well. Holiday Teams. Genesta has had an easy time of it since racing at Trentham, where she was galloped on. She is now all right again, but it will be autumn before she is back to form. C. Gordon will take his team—Callan, Takahue and Just An Idea—to the Taranaki meetings at Christmas. Just An Idea should win a race or two on the trip, as he is improving steadily. Callan has pace, but is bad at the barrier. Takahue gave promise last season of proving a useful sort, but so far his form this season has been disappointing. W. Dwyer was not satisfied with Arastar’s trial and therefore did not take the colt to Woodville for the Trial Plate. The son of Arausio is engaged at Awapuni, and should be more forward by Christmas. Dwyer has Paratoo engaged in the Manawatu Cup, and the Grandcourt gelding should give a good account of himself if the going is not too hard. Knollmere is also to race at Awapuni, and he can be depended upon to pick up some of the stake-money if fit and well. It is probable that Pedestal will be given another chance to break his maiden status at the Marton meeting.
