Proposed Trade Treaty with Canada. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 14. The Hon Downie Stewart, Minister of Finance and Customs, with his sister, Miss Stewart, his secretary, and the Comptroller of Customs (Dr Craig) arrived to-day and leaves for Honolulu to-morrow. This morning Mr Stewart received a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce in private. Interviewed Mr Stewart declined to comment on Saturday’s cable from Ottawa regarding the treaty with Canada, saying that it would be improper to speak now on questions that would be the basis of negotiations. Mr Stewart and his party are due to return to Auckland on January 25.
