Many Gatherings Held in the Country. GUILD MEMBER HONOURED. Several members of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild at Prebbleton journeyed to Southbrook on Friday evening to pay a surprise visit to Mrs M’Nicholl, who until recently was an active member of the guild. Mrs Clarke, vice-pre-sident of the guild, conveyed to Mrs M’Nicholl the good wishes of all the members and asked her acceptance of a small token of their appreciation of the good work she had done during her membership of the guild. Those contributing to the evening’s programme were Mrs Askins, Mrs Clarke, Mrs Millar, Mrs M’Nicholl and Master George M’Nicholl. The party journeyed to Southbrook in cars lent by Miss Port and Mr Higgs. Kitchen Evening. There was a large attendance at a kitchen evening organised by the members of the Winchester Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club and the Ladies’ Hockey Club for Miss Rita South, who is shortly to be married. Miss South was the recipient of many useful presents. Mrs J. C. South (president of the Hockey Club) and Mrs C. M’Clelland (Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club) eulogised the guest’s services to the clubs and wished her happiness and prosperity in the future. The music for the dancing was supplied by Misses Doreen Opie, G. South, M. Blissett, V. Sullivan, and Messrs W. Priddle and S. M. Patrick. Mr S. Aker was M.C. Miss G. Hughes contributed two songs. Bride-elect Honoured. An enjoyable evening was held at the home of Mr and Mrs T. Jackman, Tai Tapu, in honour of Miss Inez Jackman, whose marriage will take place this week. The evening was spent in games, competitions and community singing. Musical items were given by Mr Douglas Suckling and Miss Grace Berry. Competitions were won by Miss Jackman and Mr M. Cunneen. Among- those present were: Mr and Mrs T. Jackman, Mrs Maguiness, Air and Mrs A. Larc.ombe, Mrs Mosston Thompson, Mr and Airs Wallace, Mr and Airs Branthwaite, Alesdames Studholme and Brown, Aliases Inez Jac-k----man, Phyllis Jackman, L. Larcombe, A. Jackman, Grace Berry, Jessie Wood, Mollie Ryan, D. Branthwaite, Messrs L. Brown, D. Suckling- and L. and B. Jackman. Variety Evening. A variety evening was given at Tai Tapu by the members of the ladies’ basket-ball team in honour of Miss Phyllis Jackman, whose marriage will take place this week. Items were contributed by Misses Grace Berry, Nellie Wood, Mollie Ryan and Jean M’Lachlan, and Mr Francis Hamilton. Amusing competitions were won by Misses Inez Jackman and Lilly Newall. Among those present wore: Airs Jackman, Airs Suckling, Alisses Phyllis, Inez and Alma Jackman, Grace Berry, Alollie Ryan, Jessie Wood, Nellio Wood, Frances Hamilton, Peggy Hamilton. Lilly Newall, Lorna Larcombe, Ruth Al’Lachlan, Molly Newall, Dorreen Garnett, Jean Al’Laehlan and Dorothy Garnett.
