Amateur Clubs to Hold Competition. SCRATCH RACING. On Saturday afternoon at Lancaster Park, the first of a new series of Interclub meetings in the competition arranged by the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Centre will be held. The competition is framed on lines that are new in New Zealand, but which have been followed with much success in Sydney and Melbourne. Handicaps are eliminated and all competitors will start from scratch. Three meetings will bo held before Christmas and three in the New Tear. The competition will be run in two grades. The A grade comprises the Sumner, Canterbury, Technical and Varsity Clubs. The B grade is formed by the Sydenham, Old Boys, Celtic and New Brighton Clubs. Under the conditions which have been drawn up each club will compete with the club it is drawn against only. Points will be swarded as follows: First, two points; second, one point. The club obtaining the greater number of points will be the winner. The winn«f° f , th « competition will be the team with the most wins at the end of tbe series. In conjunction with the competition certificates will be awarded to competitors on performances that reach the Canterbury athletic standards. The centre has set the following standards: 100 yards. 10 2-ssec: 220. 23 2-ssec; 440, *2 * 80 * * mln 4s ® c : mils. 4min 3 7sec; j miles, lfimin fiOsec; mile walk. 7min SOsec; 120 hurdles. 18 4-ssec; 220 hurdles. 28sec; 440 hurdles, 81sec; hammer, 110 ft; shot 34ft; discus. 110 ft: Javelin. 145 ft; long Jump. 20ft Bin; ! um P. 6ft fiin; hop, step and Jump, 40 t& po, « »ft Bin.
