Hawker Going to Hotel fo< Beer. CSprclal to th. -Star.-) AUCKLAND. November 38. Included in the mutter at the Police Court was a man charged with bang idle and disorderly and with insufficient means of support. He was Peter Recast (58), hawker. He denied the charge. Constable Gibaon said be was staixk mg at the corner of Queen and Wakefield Streets at 5.50 pa, when he saw Regan about to enter a hotel. Regan wore a hat, shirt and an overcoat, but no trousers or boots. He was just entering a hotel to get beer. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said Regan had evidently been in bed during the day, following a drinking bout, and was anxious to get something more to quench his thirst. He was a hawker, but had no license. He had been in trouble before. " Regan is not a bad sort of fellow, and he works when there is work to get,” said the Salvation Army's Samar, itan officer. " Will you go with the Salvation Army for a week until you get clear of the effects of liquor, or go up to Mount Eden on remand for a week?* Mr Hunt asked Regan. -1 think I'll go with the Army, thanks,* said Regan, amidst laughter. "All right,” said the Magistrate. "Remanded for a week.”
