MR STERLING TO RETIRE.

Successor to be Appointed After Election. (Special to the “ Star.") WELLINGTON, November 23. A clause in the Finance Act of the recent session having provided for the superannuation of Mr H. H. Sterling, General Manager of Railways, in accordance with his agreement with the Government, he will resign on superannuation on December 5j and then take the chairmanship of the Railway Board. There is at present no indication of his successor, and this will constitute one of the first tasks of Cabinet following the General Election, as this appointment is reserved by statute to the Government. All other appointments to the railway service are made by the Railway Board.
