Parties Held in Town and Suburbs. DANCE AT RICCARTON. An enjoyable evening was spent recently at the Riccarton School, when the ex-pupils' tendered a complimentary social and dance to the members of the School Committee and their wives. Messrs Marsh and Keene, on behalf of the committee, thanked those responsible for the gathering and stated that credit was due to the organiser, Miss Doreen Rose. Items were contributed by Misses Beryl Rose and Freda Davison (songs), Messrs C. C. Harrow (recitation) and Neil Harris (songs with ukelele accompaniment). Mr A. F. Sutherland presided at the piano, extras being played by Mrs W. Wootton. Mr Hunt gave two extras on the accordeon. The musical stick competition was won by Mr R. Andrews. Mr V. J. Gamble was M.C. Coming-of-age Party. An enjoyable evening was spent recently at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Whitaker, Montreal Street, on the occasion of the coming of age of Lillian, eldest daughter of Mrs S. Wheller. Games, dancing and singing were enjoyed. After the usual toasts were honoured the customary key was presented to the guest of honour. Those present were: Mr and Mrs W. Whitaker. Mr and Mrs W. Lennie, Mr and Mrs W. Mitchell, Mr and Mrs G. Fa 1 gar, Mr end Mrs R. Turley. Mr and Mrs H. Williams, Mesdames S. Wheller ‘JFd H. Grilling (Kaikoura). Misses L. Wheller, P. Beechener. On Wednesday night Mr and Mrs 11. J. Peek entertained the members of the Hanmer Follies party and a number of friends at their residence, “ Kozy,” Hanmer Springs. The hostess wore a simple frock of cerise and beige patterned georgette cut on straight lines. The evening was spent in dancing, competitions and music. Complimentary references were made to the entertainments staged by the Follies during several years. Mr W. Mockett, speaking for the Waiau and Culverden districts, said that the Follies’ visits had been greatly appreciated by residents. Items were given - by Misses Withell and V. Slater, Phyllis Whale, Mavis Morten and F. Mockett, Messrs N. Barker, N. Such, W. Peters and W. V. Mockett. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs G. B. Hickman, Mrs D R. Stavert and Miss Withell, Messrs Robertson, Whiteman and Menand.
