SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Coming cf Age Party. A pleasant evening was spent at the Rio Grande Tea Room, when Mr and Mrs G. R. Fail entertained about sixty guests to’ celebrate the coming of age of their third daughter, Winifred. Mrs Fail received their guests wearing a black celanese frock relieved with shell pink. Miss Winifred Fail wore a frock of flame georgette with diamante trimmings. The large room was decorated with streamers of gold, cerise and black. The lounge was gay with spring flowers. The usual toasts were honoured, after which the guest of the evening was presented with the customary key by Mr J. M. Cooke, M.C. A lucky spot dance was won by Miss D. M’Cann and Mr R. Wilton, and a Monte Carlo dance by Miss J. M’Millan and C. Dunlop. Competitions were won by Miss D. Charman and Miss D. Taylor. Musical items were given by Mesdames T. Jarden and I. M. Cooke, Miss W. Fail, Messrs C. Ballantyne, R. Wilton, R. Fail and C. Dunlop. Exhibition dances were given by Nola Fail, Joyce Cooke and Joyce Collingwood. The guests present were: Air and Airs C. 8.-illentyne, Air and Airs T. AI. Cooke, Air and Airs IT. Fretwell, Mr and Mrs A. Alatherson, Air and Airs R. A’Court, Air and Airs J. Jarden, Air and Mrs W. Fail. Dinner Party. At the New City Hotel a family dinner party was given in honour of Mr Trevor Armstrong and his bride who, before her marriage, was Miss Alice Edith Reilly, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs George S. Reilly, of Clovelly, North Devon, England. The wedding took place on August 12 last at St Stephen's Church, Bayswater, London. After the dinner the guests proceeded to the residence of Mrs Fred Armstrong, Papanui Road, for dancing. The guests were:—Airs T. Armstrong, sen., Mrs A. Fenerty, Air and Airs A. E.
