PLACED ON PROBATION.

Young Man Obtained Credit by Fraud. (Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, October 6. According to Senior-Sergeant Matheson, Martin Christian, aged twenty-one, is habitually addicted to lying, and is an inveterate smoker. Christian was charged in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court to-day with incurring a debt for £1 11s 8d by obtaining credit by fraud. Cnrictian obtained a pair of trousers and some cigarettes from D. J. Tavendale, an Otipua storekeeper, by representing himself as being in the employ of a well-known farmer. Christian was admitted to probation for one year and ordered to make restitution.
