SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS

Minister Opens Annual Conference. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, September 23. The annual conference of South African veterans was opened by the Minister for Defence, the Hon J. G. Cobbe. Captain J. J. Clark was in the chair. The Minister said that New Zealand had a very distinguished, past in the matter of , volunteering. In regard to the rehabilitation of ex-soldiers, two vocational officers had been appointed and it was hoped that they would get to work soon. Included in the business of the conference are remits relating to pension matters. A remit suggesting that the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act be reopened and that South African veterans be eligible for its benefits, as recommended by the Rehabilitation Commission, and a remit inviting a conference from all ex-ser-vicemen’s association! to consider the formation of one united ex-servicemen's league.
