DAMAGES CLAIM.

Suit for £1057 Heard ir Supreme Court. SEQUEL TO COLLISION. The hearing of the case in which William Wilmott, of Christchurch, claimed 11057 16s 3d damages from Keith Wilson Manning. rubl>er planter, of the Malay States, was concluded in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Adams to-day. The case arose out of a collision at the corner of Colombo and High Streets ljetween a baker’s van driven by Wilmott and a motorcar driven by Manning. The claimant alleged that he had suffered severe injuries. Mr Sim appeared for claimant and Mr M. J. Gresson, with him Dr Haslain, appeared for respondent. Eyewitnesses’ Evidence. Arthur Douglas Ford, company manager, Christchurch, who was an eyewitness of the accident, said that the car, which appeared to come out of Hereford Street, struck the van at an angle. The van was thrown over on its side, and the driver tossed heavily to the ground. The point of impact was in High Street, just round the corner from Hereford Street. Mar>orie May M’Dougall, married woman, Christchurch, said that she saw the car come out of Hereford Street. It was three or four yards out from the corner. and appeared to be going straight for the tram lines in High Street. The van was struck at an angle. The car was near the tram line when the impact occurred. The evidence of defendant who, since the accident, has returned to the Malay States, was read to the jury. Allan Walter Brown. Crown Solicitor, Christchurch, said that he was crossing Colombo Street into High Street at the time of.the accident. The car had almost completed a turn from Hereford Street into High Street before witness heard the sound of a horse trotting behind him. The car and van collided at an acute angle. The car was going at a walking pace. The van was travelling faster than the car.
