TWO SENSATIONAL GUN BATTLES IN AUSTRALIA.
Thieves Meet Stout Resistance When Breaking into Garage. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received August 17, 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 17. There were two sensational revolver battles during the week-end. At Yass a duel between a nightwatchman and a burglar at a garage nearly ended fatally. After the thief had made his escape his hat was found with two bullet holes through the crown, while the watchman’s coat was pierced. The second pistol battle occurred in a lonely part of Glenroy, 'Victoria, where six men broke into Nicholson’s garage. They awakened four men on the premises and one of the thieves was captured. The others returned and, after releasing their companion, opened a pitched battle until their magazines were exhausted. Then they used tyre levers. Two garage men were knocked unconscious and the gunmen then made off. It is remarkable that no one was wounded, although at least thirty shots were fired.
