BOXING.
Cleverley may meet O’Malley at Waimate. (Special to the “ Star.”) WAIMATE. August 16. In the absence of the president (Mr G. E. Bray), the Mayor (Mr G. Dash) presided at a special general meeting of the Waimate Boxing Association. There was a fair attendance. The secretary (Mr R. Sullivan) read i correspondence from Alf Cleverley’s trainer in regard to a possible match with J. O’Malley. The date of September 12 was mentioned. Mr Dash mentioned that at a previous meeting it had been the consensus of opinion that the club should go very carefully, in view of the finances. Mr C. S. Hood said the fight would 1 have to be a Saturday open-air one. to get and accommodate the crowd, but if there was a fine day he was certain it would be a success. Patrons would be attracted from Oamaru, Timaru and the Hydro. With a fine day ; the bout would give a bright lining to the association’s finances. It was decided to stage the open-air fight if the ten guarantees could be obtained.
