SATURDAY’S MATCHES.

Ideal weather favoured the continuation of the basketball matches on Saturday. As the end of the season is approaching keen competition in the remaining games is assured. Some splendid team work was shown in the semifinals of the junior B and C grades. Few senior B matches were contested, due to the representative team playing at Wellington. Digby’s A v. Technical A. Digby-S A had an easy win over Technicai A, principally on account of go° a play and combination in goal. Technical combined well in the centre, hut the goal-throwers were not up to their usual standard. The centre defence player for Digby’s was in splendid form and, in time, should become a very prominent player. Score: Digfiys A 10. Technical A 3. ' Referee: M. Kershaw. Te JCaha A v. Hollander’s. Once again Te Kaha A demonstrated their ability to put up a stronger opposition than Hollander’s. The former weie in splendid form and the goal-throwers could not make a mistake. Hollander s defensive play and the centres were fairly strong, but the goal-throwers were off play. Score: Te Kaha A 14. Hoi lander’s 7. Referee: Mrs M’Kenzie. Mairehau B v. Girl Citizens. The Mairehau B-Girl Citizens encounter was one of the semi-finals and tne match was keenly and evenly contested in the first half it appeared as It lriri Citizens were going to win, . the halt time score being 3-1 in their fa Y ol f r '; After a belated change in tactics 11 a^ n t v^ e commencement of the second spell, however Mairehau forged steadily ahead until the score was 3-all. minutes to go both teams were playing their hardest and Mairehau scored another goal just before the final whistle. Score: Mairehau B 4. Girl Citizens 3. Referee: Mrs Dawber. Sacred Heart B v. Phillipstown. Sacred Heart B. who defeated Phillipstown, are in the finals next Saturday. Sacred Heart played their usual good game and the goal-throwers were on form. Phillipstown gave Sacred Heart a good run and, although beaten, showed a high standard of combination and play. Score: Sacred Heart B 19. Phillipstown 10. Referee: Mrs Tilly. Notes. The following are the points scored and the teams’ positions in the A grade: Sacred Heart A. 20 points, l; Digbys A and Training College A. 22 points (equal) 2; Canterbury College A, 14 points, 3; United.
