Construction of New Road Well in Hand. The new road being constructed as a continuation of Reserve Terrace, Lyttelton, will be a big asset to tradesmen of the town, as it will obviate the necessity of much bill climbing. The borough engineer reports that satisfactory arrangements have been made with the Christ’s College Board of Governors for the required permission to continue the road Negotiations are being made with private property ow'ners to enable the council to proceed with the construction of the road into Somes RoadThe work is being carried out by unemployed workers under the No. 5 scheme. Jumble Sale. A successful jumble sale was held last evening in the Holy Trinity Schoolroom in aid of the spring flower show. Cycle Racing. Owing to there being insufficient entries for the twenty-four-mile road race from Lyttelton to Teddington and back, the race to have been held this afternoon was cancelled. Seamen’s Institute. This week’s concert for visiting seamen at Lyttelton, which was held at the Seamen’s Institute, was arranged by Miss M. Hatchwell, of the Lyttelton Guild. Contributing artists were Mrs G. Brookes, Misses Nystram, M. Loader, A. Voice. Masters Emms and J. Fowlds. The pupils of Miss E. Ayers gave an exhibition of fancy dancing.
