SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Successful Musical Evening at Women’s Club. Bowls of pussy willow, wattle and gvpsophlia were used to give the Can terbury Women’s Club a cheery appearance last night, when a musicale was held. The programme was arranged by Mrs Alice Forrester, Mus.Bac.. and there were items by well-known artists. Mrs Forrester wore a handsome black faconne frock with graceful flares of black georgette. A yoke of pink pin-tucked georgette toned with the spray of velvet flowers on her shoulder Mrs Ross Brodie (Rangitata) was in a beige lace frock over sunset pink satin and she wore a black faconne coatee trimmed with white fur collar and cuffs. Miss Hilda Ilutt wore a daintypowder blue faille frock with a deep hem of net outlined with pink rosebuds. Her coatee was of black and gold brocade. An enjoyable surprise party, organised by the “ Merrymakers,” journeyed to the home of Mrs Mahoney, Winton Street, St Albans. The evening was spent in competitions and dancing. Competitions were won by Mrs Scouliar, Mrs Perriton and Mr Don Archer. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Noreen Scoullar and Mr Jim Weir. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs Mahoney, Mr and Mrs T. Scoullar, Mr and Mrs D. Falls, Mr and Mrs L. Roden. Mrs Perriton, Mrs Grigsby, Misses Noreen Scoullar, May Percy, Jean Brown. The Ladies’ Guild of the Papanui Methodist Church held an enjoyable social evening to raise money for the trust funds. Mrs Haynes presided. A feature of the evening was the “ conundrum ” supper. The games and competitions were won by Misses Fairbairn and Quigley and Mr C. Carr. Party at Opawa. A pleasant evening was spent in St Mark’s Hall, Opawa, recently, when the Opawa Girls’ Club held a gift evening in honour of a club member. An enjoyable evening was spent recently at the residence of Mr and Mrs F. Blackmore, Papanui, when a party of relatives and friends met to celebrate Mrs Blackmore’s birthday. The diningroom and supper tables were decorated with narcissi. A programme of music and competitions, interspersed with dancing and community singing, was much enjoyed. Songs were rendered by Mesdames E. Barnard and H. R. Smith. An amusing competition was won by Miss M. Nelson. The usual toasts were honoured, Mrs Blackmore receiving many beautiful presents. Nelson, Messrs Morland, Tapper and others. Heathcote Club Dance. A night dance arranged by the Heathcote Club was held in the Club Hall on Wednesday evening. Those present spent an enjoyable time dancing to music supplied by Wells’s Dance Band. A lucky spot waltz was won by Mrs Burberry and Mr W. Read. The M. were Messrs A. Nicholl and S Perkins.
