FANCY DRESS PARTY.
Papanui v -Tort Aids Nurse Maude Association. Mesdames J. Kettle and E. Dodgson organised a successful fancy dress party in the Papanui Buildings in aid of the funds of the Nurse Maude Association. Multi-coloured streamers and the gaily coloured dresses made a pretty scene. The judges’ placings for the prizes j were as follows:—Most Original Costume, Miss Audrey Witty (Delicacies), Mr A. Hunt (Grandfather) ; best dresses, Miss M’Kay (Victorian), Mr R. Gibbard (Pirate) ; cheapest. Miss M’Cracken (Flower Girl), Mr H. Smallbon (City Lights). The judges were: Mesdames Barnard and Derrett and Messrs A. C. Harris, J. Hewitt and J. Sturrock. An exhibition of quickstep and diagonal waltzing was given by Miss Iris Edmonds and Mr Desmond Day. Vocal and elocutionary items were given by Misses Rita Smallbon, Rene Hill, Olive Tibbs and a tap dance by Mr R. Dudwick. Scottish dances were given by Masters Melville and Ray Sturrock and instrumental items by Miss Nellie Cooper (violin), Miss Vinna Clark (Hawaiian guitar), Miss Joyce Fletcher (banjo), Mr Cyril Blackmore (banjo), Mr Ron Jeal (cornet), and Mr Hector Smallbon (piano). Mr Fred Comyns provided the music for the dancing. The “lucky spot” waltz was won by Mr and Mrs C. Palmer, and the Monte Carlo by Miss Tibbs and Mr Sturrock. Mr J. Young won a competition. Mr Parera was M.C. The organisers were assisted by Mr and Mrs Parera, Mr and Mrs Brown, Miss Kettle and Messrs R. Deidrick, E. Watts and W. Nicholls.
