TO-DAY’S HOCKEY.
Final Round oi he Senior Competition. The final round of the Canterbury Hockey Association competitions was played this afternoon. SYDENHAM V. SELWYN. Selwyn had the better of the opening stages of the game at Sydenham Park and gained a corner from which B. Hore had a shot, which was penalised for sticks. Sydenham made a quick run down the left wing and gained a couple of corners, and Duffield cleared the net with a high shot. Selwyn kept play in Sydenham’s end, gaining three penalty corners in quick succession, and Snooks stopped a couple of hot “hots. The half-time score was:—Selwyn 0, Sydenham 0. Selwyn continued to hold the upper hand, and Lane shot outside. H. Hore sent Selwyn away, and Snooks coming out, J. Andrews scored with a great shot. Selwyn 1, Sydenham 0. Sydenham retaliated and a good centre by Sherriffs went begging. G. Burke, Sydenham, retired owing to an injury. Selwyn forced play into Sydenham’s circle, when time was called. The final score was:— SELWYN 1 SYDENHAM 0 Referees: Messrs C. C. Holland and J. Almond. VARSITY v. REDCLirPS. The opening stages were evenly contested. C. Sutherland put across a good centre, but Harper did not do anything with it. Redcliffs had slightly the better of the play, the spell ending with no score. Thompson centred and E. Sutherland opened Redcliffs’ score. The Varsity attack stiffened up and Ford scored the equaliser. Redcliffs 1, Varsity 1. Turbitt came through for Varsity to score a great goal. Ford added another one. Redcliffs were not to be denied, however, Thompson scoring. Varsity 3, Redcliffs 2. A spell of even play followed until Douds added Varsity’s fourth goal. The game ended:— VARSITY 4 REDCLIFFS 2 Referee: Mr A. L. Graham. TECHETICAL v. CIIRISTOHURCH. Technical quickly assumed the offensive, but offside lost a certain goal. M’llroy sent his forwards nwav and Thomson completed a solo run through the centre by netting for Christchurch. Christchurch 1. Technical 0. Thomson again went through with a solo run to score •Christchurch’s second goal. Christchurch 2, Technical 0. Grafton made a good run down the loft, and centred for Lohrey to register for Technical. Christchurch 2. Technical 1. Technical came again, and Lohrey again found the net with a good “hot. Christchurch 2, Technical 2. Half-time came with nlav in midfield and the score Christchurch 2, Technical 2. Shortly af'er resuming Lohrey missed a certain goal by shooting outside. Technical were having much the better of play, poor circle work nullifying several promi-ing movements. Christchurch conceded two corners in succession of which no use was made. Grafton made a. nice run on the left and Passed infield, but. Lohrey again missed an easy shot. Full time sounded with Technical on the attack, and the score: CHRTSTCTTURCH 2 TECHNICAL 2 Referee: Mr L. L. Smith. FIVE-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. The Canterbury Hockey Association’s annual five-a-side tournament for senior, junior, third, fourth and fifth grades will be held at Hagley Park on Saturday, August 22.
