Sir Cecil Leys, managing director of New Zealand Newspapers, arrived from Wellington by the ferry steamer this morning, and is staying at the United Service Hotel. Messrs W. F. Nicholls, J. A. Pick and H. C. Murray (Wellington) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. The Hon W. B. Taverner, Minister for Public Works, was a passenger by the ferry steamer this morning. Mr J. C. Forsyth, of the M.E.D. staff, who has been on a visit to Wellington, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr H. R. Sellers, secretary of the New Zealand Rowing Conference, returned to Wellington by last night’s ferry steamer. The Hon J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., and the Hon D. Buddo, M.L.C., returned from Wellington by the ferry steamer this morning. Messrs W. Machin, Norton Francis, A. S. Smith, C. Clabburn, C. G. White, B. Whitcombe and Dr V. Irvine were passengers by the ferry steamer this morning. Mr P. R. Climie, a member of the Unemployment Board, returned from Wellington by the ferry steamer this morning. Messrs W. L. Martin, C. Carr, J. A. MacPherson, D. M’Dougall, A. Hamilton, J. Bitchener, J. O’Brien and T. Makitanara, M.P.’s, were passengers by the ferry steamer this morning Mr John W. Kershaw, chairman oi the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, died at Martinborough on Tuesday, aged fifty-six. He was a son of the late Mr John Kershaw, of Wellington, and for many years past has been well known in the Wairarapa as managing director of the firm of Pain and Ker'shaw.
