Addington Public Library.
At the half yearly meeting of the committee of the Addington Public Library, the president, Mr P. Gordon, presided. Mrs Goldstone’s resignation was accepted with regret and Mrs 11. Allan was elected to the committee. The president gave an outline of the proceedings when the deputation from the suburban libraries waited on the Finance Committee of the Christchurch City Council. He assured the members that the deputation was received cordially and sympathetically. It was decided to write to Messrs Brettell, Jones and Pollard, members of the deputation, thanking th*em for their valuable assistance. The advisability of forming a local libraries’ association was discussed, and the secretary was instructed to obtain opinions from libraries in and around Christchurch. Mr E. Parlane, who had held the office of president for ten years, presented a framed enlarged photograph of himself to the library. Reference was made to Mr Parlane’s valuable services to the library and district generally. Mrs Parlane provided supper.
