Business as Usual.
To the Editor. Dear Sir,—We hear a lot these deys of the depression. Must of us have Lit it, too. We read that the » Lotion us greater pr»>d action. harder work and less pay. On those points I wt n't argue. They might be right; they might not. But there is one thing 1 would like to know. What are our commercial leaders doing? Are they seriously meeting the position? We know they make speeches abcat bed times and tell us that costs have to be lowered, but v.hat are they doing themselves? Are they working harder, are they looking for new aven-ies of business, putting their body and soul into the task of combating and. eventual! v, overcoming the present state of affairs? Personally. I do not think so. An instance. On Tuesday I went into Hereford Street to transact business What did I find? Almost every office closed, staffs absent and business completely stopped. I do not condemn racing, but I do think that if the financial wizards of the city paid more attention to the present problems and less to Riccartoo. we would be out of the wood sooner than we will .be if the present policy of abandoning business for a race meeting is persisted in, -I am. etc.. EFFICIENCY.
