RECRUITS NEEDED.
Stimulating Interest in the Medical Units. The first annual reunion of the New Zealand Medical Corps, including the No. 3 and No. 6 Field Ambulances and Christchurch Bearer Corps, was held in the Veterans’ Association rooms last evening, about 100 members attending. Dr J. R. Thomas presided. After the loyal toast had been honoured, a toast to “ Absent Comrades ” was proposed by Dr Thomas and was honoured in silence. In proposing the toast of the “Army, Navy and Air Forces,” Mr C. E. Ferris urged that it was England’s duty not to weaken herself in arms, for it was upon England’s strength that r.he security of world peace depended. Responding to the toast, LieutenantColonel S. C. P. Nicholls said that the expenditure on the military forces in England had been reduced to rock bottom, but the Government, while not prepared to increase the appropriation, was insistent upon efficiency. Referring to the new system of military training in New Zealand, Colonel Nicholls said that recruits were needed to build up the medical units. He would urge that members present use their influence to stimulate interest among younger men w’ith a view to enlistment. In the medical corps, young men would be taught one of the most useful subjects available under military training. Other toasts honoured were: “New Zealand Medical Corps,” “ Christchurch Bearer Corps ” and “ Returned Soldiers’ ! Association.’’
